Homework answers 2005-9-13
This week I'd like I'd like you to ponder something simple, and send it to the list. What does your character like about his or her everyday life?
What is their preferred type of food? Please list a few example dishes they enjoy.
Verana grew up in a fairly diverse community where humans and elves lived together. As such, she ate traditional elf food, traditional regional human food, strange amalgam recipes that drew from both traditions and totally different things altogether (often using the vegetables and such that grew well in the area). She really likes vegetables, especially in stews and such. She has developed a taste for fish since she left home, but she's really picky about her fish. She's had too much crappy fish and now really only likes good fish cooked well.
Is there a style of clothing, or a specific piece of clothing, your character prefers to wear? Please describe the style or clothing article.
Verana dresses flamboyantly. She currently dresses in clothing that invokes the image of swashbucklers (think Captain Amelia or Captain Hook (and here) or others in similar veins). She usually wears either high or rolled over boots, a coat trimmed in gold or decorative braid over a flowing blouse, often a musketeer hat with a feather. She's definitely noticeable. When working or dungeoncrawling she wears the same base outfit and boots, but not the coat or hat. Her leather armor becomes partially visible (like Zoe's leather top in Firefly), but otherwise is hidden under boots and clothing.
Does your character have a hobby? What do they do with their "free time"? Please give an example of a project your character has undertaken.
She spends some of her free time practicing her work (lock picking, etc.) and practicing with her rapier (occasionally with Maeglin, but he's much better with weapons than she is), but she does have actual hobbies as well. Verana likes talking to people and hearing their stories. She's thinking about writing them down in a book someday. She's actually a really good cook, so when she gets the chance, she likes to cook (Maeglin was forced to try lots of culinary experiments of hers before they both left home). She also really likes swimming and fishing (when she gets the chance). And of course, she's a twin, so teasing Maeglin has always been a hobby of hers (but he teases her back, so it's ok).
